Well yesterday we had to go to Dublin for Jono’s check up. I had my list ready about whether he can go swimming, have baths etc. We also wanted to ask about the pain he has in his shoulders and was it normal that he looks slightly hunched again.
Of course everything went out the window when we got to see the consultant. He had done an xray of Jono and his spine has started to curve at the top including the rod so he is thinking of extending the spinal fusion up to Jono’s neck. We were really shocked, we just weren’t expecting that. Poor Jono having to go through it all again. Of course now that I’m home I have all kinds of questions that I should have asked. Thankfully there is the scoliosis support website. As always they are a great help.
We won’t know anymore until May when Jono has to go back for another check up. They will xray him again and see if the curve has progressed. In the meantime they have referred him for physiotherapy and occupational therapy to see if it will help with the shoulder pain.
Sorry to hear about Jono. Sometimes things take a little longer than expected but hopefully he will be sorted soon. Thinking about you.x
Thanks Michelle, it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth at the moment. x
Hiya, just found your blog through the IBA nominations (congrats!). Sorry to hear about Jono – as someone who’s spent a long time with mine in Crumlin I know how hard these setbacks are. Thoughts are with you and yours.

Thanks…..wow stunning photos on your site!
Oh, Val
I’m so sorry to read this. I’ve been so wrapped up in my own situation of late, I’ve fallen behind.
I know well that feeling of ‘everything going out the window’ at an appointment. Take hope in the fact that physio and OT might allay the problem. Setbacks are never easy to accept so all you can do is take it one step at a time.
(((Big hugs)))
