It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Rocket-dog has been a great help when it comes to putting up the decorations. He is also spending a lot of time under the Christmas tree, thankfully he hasn’t ‘watered’ it….yet.

I took my mum into Sligo yesterday for her shopping. It’s amazing that this close to Christmas some of the shops aren’t open until after 10am. It’s also madness that Tesco only had 3 tills open (and that was at 11am). I think next week we’ll go to Dunnes, at least they have free parking, free toilets and hopefully more than ‘free’ tills open (see what I did there ;).

Sligo has been in the news in the last week or so. Firstly a dead whale got washed up onto a beach, closely followed by another one on another Sligo beach. I’m surprised at the amount of people who have gone to photograph them. That really wouldn’t be my thing at all. The poor whales, I know they are beautiful creatures but do people really want to see photos of dead whales? I’m judging from the amount of posts I’ve seen about it they do 😦

Also this week a Sligo couple have commenced a hunger strike outside Enda Kennys office in Castlebar. They are trying to get their nieces, who they have adopted, over to Ireland. There is some problem with the visa’s so the poor girls are stuck in an orphanage in Turkey. I can understand completely the plight of the couple but can’t see how a hunger strike will help. A protest yes but without the hunger strike. If the couple go without food for too long they aren’t going to be much use to the girls.

Now for something completely different. ‘Stay another Day’ by East 17, it’s not a Christmas song is it? If there were no bells at the end and the video didn’t have fake snow it would have nothing at all to do with Christmas. What do you think?
