Lissadell

Following on my Raghly blog post on my way back to Drumcliffe I took a detour around Lissadell. I had previously been to Lissadell House and it is a really beautiful place, it was wonderful to see it restored to its former glory. Sadly now due to a court case concerning rights of way the house and gardens are closed to the public. Here are a few photos I took on my previous visit. No photos were allowed to be taken inside the house so there aren’t many pics to see.

It is very sad to see all the keep out signs. I hope the matter can be re-solved and that the house will be re-open to the public. It was a great tourist attraction and a beautiful place.

Lissadell beach is still well worth going to though. It was almost deserted, apart from a few dog walkers.

I always forget how much colder it is down by the sea though, but I did brace myself and go for a walk.

Walking along the beach I saw this little derelict hut/house on the rocks. I’ve no idea what it used to be. It looked so sad and out-of-place there.

I’m sure back in the day of the ‘Celtic Tiger’ it would have been sold for a fortune as a ‘fixer upper’!

It even has flowers growing outside it! What more could you ask for?.. well I suppose a roof would be nice.

Lissadell really is a wonderful place to visit. It’s not hard to see how W. B. Yeats took inspiration for some of his poems from there.

As I say with so many of my blogs I will go back again….when it’s warmer 😉
