Regular readers of my blog will know about my son Jonathan. He has Asperger’s Syndrome. He also has kyphosis and scoliosis for which he is on the waiting list at Our Ladys Hospital Crumlin to have a spinal fusion.
The Irish Daily Mail contacted me and did the above article.
We are really hoping that someone, somewhere will be able to help and that Jonathan can have his operation as soon as possible.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you Val xx
I wish you and Jono good luck. I think its a brave and courageous decision to take this to the papers for whom I have little regard having worked with them for many years; however, prejudice aside, I hope that this prompts the authorities or someone in a position of competence in another hospital or other authority to step forward and offer what you need. They need to take the moral high ground if they can bring themselves to do it. Whilst not perfect, our respective health systems are a jewel in the crown of what other countries have by comparison – until things like this happens and they let our citizens down. No amount of good work will be remembered when they read articles like this one.
I know your humour and dignity will help you through frustrating and difficult times.
I hope we never go down the road of the American system which I saw on the TV news the other day where, if you don’t have insurance, you can queue at a free hospital for hours if not days on end for treatment even if your condition is serious, and then get seen in such poor conditions. Talk about a split and divided community of rich and poor – we should worry!
I send my kindest regards to you all.

Thanks so much for your comments and messages of support.
If I thought there was another way to get help rather then in the media then I would jump at the chance.
Unfortunatley in Ireland it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
Or how loudly you shout. So I’m shouting.

Good for you and Jono for doing the article. The more pressure the better. Let’s hope it all gets a bit easier – especially for the children.
