It’s been a few weeks since my last Sunday Thoughts. I just haven’t been in the right headspace to write – and that’s okay. Sometimes it’s good to take a break. But here I am again, back to annoy you all.
Life has been busy (though not quite as hectic as before). There have been a few family hospital appointments, and no matter how old my children get, I’ll always worry about them. That’s just part of being a mammy, isn’t it?
I met a friend for coffee last week, which was lovely. I need to remind myself to be more sociable, I’m not great at it, but I’m trying. It’s nice to sit, chat, and switch off from the computer for a while.

I’ve also been getting out for a walk every morning, and it’s such a peaceful way to start the day; the birds chatting away, mice scurrying about, bees buzzing. There’s something very special on those quiet morning walks. I went to the Caves of Keash early one morning, and that was wonderful – such a perfect start to the day – just me and the sheep.

I visited two forests filled with bluebells recently. It rained at one of them, and I loved that earthy smell afterwards, mixed with wild garlic and bluebells. It’s a pity you can’t experience that through photos alone, but I’ll share a video so you can at least hear the birds.
We’ve just had the bank holiday weekend, and it was mostly quiet, apart from Saturday at the Uisce Álainn for the Sligo PPN. It was a really special day, centred on remembrance and resilience for those affected by cancer, and their supporters. Watching the dragon boats come down the river, listening to Amy O’Hara sing, and reading messages on the memory tree, it was all very moving. I’ll share Amy’s song – because it’s so beautiful, and I think you’d like it.
Despite how busy everyone was, there were smiles and kind words everywhere. I had some lovely chats with participants, which you can hear on the Sligo Community Voices podcast. I always find I’m more confident when I’m doing something for others, and I really enjoyed it.
I did get absolutely soaked when the rain came (lesson learned – bring a coat), but the kindness made up for it. One of the dragon warriors found me a jacket, and Cllr. Fergal Nealon helped me into it while I was filming. Such a thoughtful gesture.
I’ve also been busy blogging, exploring a couple of new coffee spots in Sligo, and putting together a bumper Sligo Food News post. A big thank you to Judi and Jackie for their support this week – it means a lot.
I hope you’re all keeping well, and thanks, as always, for reading.
