Happy May! Welcome to another edition of Sligo Food News. I’ve seen quite a lot of things happening, so I’m adding it all here. The photo above is El Churro, one of the new dishes on the Tempo breakfast menu, it was really lovely, and not too sweet. You can find Tempo in Ballisodare – shout out to Hannah for giving me a coffee – much appreciated.

I also have to tell you about a fabulous dinner that Lucy and I had in Bia Bao (Jalan Jalan) in Sligo town. Lucy had tofu and noodles, and I had crispy chicken and rice – it was all amazing, and big portions too. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food was served very quickly.

I have to share my bear cappuccino with you, this was in Osta Cafรฉ – so cute!
Tubbercurry news

Jenny’s Cafรฉ has just launched their smoothie range – and they look wonderful.

When you are in Tubbercurry – you have to call to Cawley’s for their amazing almond croissant cookiesย by Jenny Penny Bakes.

Dream Coffee Sligo has recently opened at Healy’s Garden Centre (near the Holy Well). I haven’t been yet, but I’ve heard great things about their bakes and I was told that they do the nicest toasties. Find them on Instagram.

Carraig Rua Bakeryย Ham & Cheese Croissants are available at Three Hills Cafรฉ, Knocknashee. This community cafe is open every Saturday and Sunday.

Maugherow Community Cafรฉ, starting Wednesday 6th May, and running every Wednesday from 10.30am โ 12.30pm at Maugherow Hall (F91 XY17). Drop in for: good coffee, homemade treats, great company and a warm friendly chat.

Dermot O’Leary was out and about in Sligo, filming for Dermot’s Taste of Ireland. He visited several locations, including Stoked, Sligo Oysters, and Eala Bhan. The series started on ITV on Saturday, and you can read more about it here.

There’s a lot happening in Sligo town on May 7th for Good Evening and Good Night Sligo. Including a pasta making demo at Pasta Fresca! Grattan Street, Sligo. Date/Time: Thursday, 7th May at 7pm (Approx. 75 mins). Price: โฌ20 per person. Finger food and welcome drink on arrival.



Also on May 7th, enjoy free ice cream at Fabio’s, Wine Street from 6pm-7:30pm. Riverside Hotel has a steak night on May 7th. Booking advised. Hooked are doing Taco Thursday until closing time on May 7th. There are a lot more events happening too – check out Sligo BID for full details.

May 7th is also the last chance to go to The Glasshouse for their amazing Sri Lankan Curry Night. This is not to be missed. Mammy Johnston’s in Strandhill have launched their summer special range of drinks: Raspberry Iced Mocha, Lemon Iced Tea, Iced Latte and Pink Lemonade.

The launch of the 2026 Sligo County Fleadh will take place in the Barrel House, White Hag Brewery, Ballymote, on 14th May 2026 at 7pm. All welcome, light refreshments will be served. Also check out the Barrel House at the weekends – they serve pizza, have live music, and of course White Hag Beer.
