I went to a needle felt workshop today with Alison Hunter – who is an amazingly talented artist. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I thought it might involve sewing which would be fine until I explain that I spent most of my time at school skipping that particular class.
I’m a different person these days and I love trying out anything creative to see what I like and what I don’t like. I have to say in my best Simon Cowell voice, I didn’t like this…..I loved it!
Alison is a fantastic teacher, she’s calm and patient and explained everything so well. She’s one of the artists involved in the Open Art Studio which is beside Osta Cafe and Wine Bar in Sligo town.
I wanted to make a fox and I was delighted with the result especially as I haven’t done anything like this before. The method is (in my words) stabbing wool into felt with a giant needle…I only stabbed my finger twice which is quite good as far as I’m concerned.
Of course now I want to try more things like this. The time flew and as we sat working and chatting overlooking the river people came in to say hello. It was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Alison is running classes all weekend and I’d really recommend this to anyone. You can find Alison on Facebook.
