I love wandering Sligo town at night. The lights shimmer on the river, bats fly overhead, and there’s always music drifting from somewhere. You can catch a show, enjoy dinner, make new friends in one of the pubs, or simply soak up the atmosphere.

On May 7th, things step up a notch with “Good Evening and Good Night Sligo,” curated by Sligo BID. I recently met Edel Doran, Sligo’s Night-Time Economy Advisor, who shared what’s in store – and it sounds like one of those nights where you’ll wish you could be in five places at once.
There are over 40 events taking place, and local businesses – including cafés, bars, shops, gyms, and creative spaces – are staying open late, each adding something unique. Expect live music, poetry, tastings, workshops, and a few surprises you wouldn’t normally find on a Thursday evening.
Here are a few highlights (full listings are on Sligo BID’s socials): Instagram and Facebook.
For families, there’s plenty happening: a mobile gaming experience in Queen Maeve Square, a visit to The Crib for teens, and free ice cream from Fabio’s Ice Cream. You can also join Lanterns in the Making with Tom Meskell, or take part in the dog-friendly Sligo Glow Walk starting at 6pm.

Food lovers are well looked after too; curry night at The Glasshouse Hotel, taco specials at Hooked, pasta-making at Pasta Fresca, and steak night at Riverside Hotel.
Oak Moon Cafe is hosting a mix of events, from coffee foam art to live music – and even a flamethrowing performance.
If culture is your thing, drop into The Model, Sligo or The Hamilton Gallery for exhibitions, or join Illuminations at The Model – an open evening of poetry and conversation.
For fashion, there are styling tips with Fiona Doyle in Quayside Shopping Centre (I could do with this!), plus a chance to win €1500 in Love Sligo gift cards for the town’s most stylish. So, get the glad rags on – the winner could be you!
Music is everywhere; The Osta Sessions, Thomas Connolly, Maeves, and even a Latino dance night at Lillies Cocktail Bar.
Shops will stay open late with special offers, and you can also dip into yoga, a free gym session, darts, karate – whatever takes your fancy.
And when you need a breather? Head to The Snug for a pint (and possibly a free tattoo…), or grab 10% off drinks at Insomnia between 6–8pm.

For something calmer, Angel and Gift World are offering demonstrations and access to their beautiful angel room upstairs.
All in all, it’s shaping up to be a brilliant night. You can browse the full schedule and plan your route on the Sligo BID website.
