Sunday Thoughts

It’s been the longest time since I’ve written a Sunday Thoughts blog post, but thanks to the businesses who helped me resurrect the blog I’m back again. I’ll tell you more about them in the coming weeks. It’s heartwarming to think that there are people out there who support what I do, and I’m very grateful to them.

The countdown is well and truly on for Lucy and Laurence’s wedding day. I am beside myself with excitement and nervousness. I’m driving myself (and the lads) demented, as I’m finding it very hard to sit still and relax. Sleep is next to non-existent and when I do sleep, I’m dreaming about the wedding, I’ve lived the day about 30 times already, or I’m having nightmares about forgetting something.

I wasn’t this nervous for my own wedding, but it’s something very different and very special when my only daughter is preparing to walk up the aisle. I know she will be a beautiful bride, as she is beautiful inside and out, and Laurence is a very lucky man, which I’m sure he knows.

It’s going to be a busy week with preparations, and a couple of family medical appointments, the only thing I failed at was getting an appointment to sort my awful eyebrows out, but there’s nothing I can do about that now, and as was pointed out to me no one will be looking at me anyway. I know that, but I see my eyebrows whenever I look in the mirror (not very often these days).

I’ve been doing well at eating better, and I’ve lost around a stone in two months, and dropped a dress size. I wish it was more because I don’t really look any different, and I still have lumps and bumps, bingo wings, and a turkey neck, but as the song goes – This is Me.

We are a bit worried about the weather, September is usually a lovely month, but so far, it’s been windy and raining. If any of you have a Child of Prague, will you ask it to work its magic, please? Lucy also tells me that burying a sausage works too!! My friend Marion McGarry wrote about the Child of Prague on RTE Brainstorm, so you can read all about that here: https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2025/0829/1512414-child-of-prague-statue-ireland-weddings-weather-folklore/

There’s more about burying a sausage here: https://hawkebarnvenue.co.uk/burrying-a-sausage/ Do you think a vegetarian sausage will work?

Anyway, there’s nothing we can do about the weather, and the rest is pretty much in the hands of the Gods. A special thanks to the very kind blog reader who sent a gift, it’s very much appreciated.

As always, thanks for reading.
