A Spa by the Seaside

I have to tell you about the most amazing spa experience in Sligo, and one that you need to put on your list for sure. I visited the Ocean Sands Hotel in Enniscrone last year to check out their spa opening day, I wrote about it here. One of my lovely online friends kindly sent me a gift voucher, so off I went to enjoy a bit of pampering.

I’m always up bright and early so I booked the first appointment of the morning, but then I had a dilemma of where to have breakfast – I don’t like eating as soon as I wake up. I’m not sure what the deal is with hotels, as to whether they serve breakfast to non-residents, so I put a call out on twitter and the wonderful Denise K suggested Offshore Coffee and more -which is a little foodie hub of happiness, serving takeaway Acai bowls. I had the most amazing breakfast, you pick whatever you want in your breakfast bowl and they do the rest. I also had a pumpkin spiced latte because I have notions sometimes.

Anyway back to the spa. I was welcomed by Sarah, and had a short form to fill out. I’d originally booked a seaweed bath, but then I looked at the website and saw they also do mud baths and milk baths, and I remember one of my readers telling me they were allergic to seaweed, so I asked if I could be a pain and change to a milk bath, and Sarah was lovely and accommodated me with no bother.

The changing room has lockers, so you get a big fluffy bathrobe, flipflops and towels, and you know that all your belongings will be safe. I went to the thermal suite first and enjoyed the sauna and hot tub, there are also loungers if you just want to chill, or you can go in to the relaxation room and snuggle up under a blanket.

My bath was absolutely gorgeous, it was the perfect temperature and to make it an extra special experience there was a champagne sorbet and herbal tea waiting for me. I was offered Prosecco instead of the tea but I was driving, I’ve never been to a spa that’s offered me Prosecco and sorbet and Sarah tells me this is for all spa users. This is one of the reasons that makes the Ocean Sands Spa a very special experience.

Enniscrone is such a lovely places, miles of sandy beach for you to walk along, great for surfing, a golf course that overlooks the Wild Atlantic Way and really friendly people. It’s also a great base if you want to explore Sligo and North Mayo. The Ocean Sands Hotel is dog friendly too, so you can bring your furry friend with you.

You can read all about the spa here. It really was wonderful and I’d really recommend it. Sincere thanks to the lovely lady who sent me the voucher, and thank you to Sarah for making me feel so welcome. I will be back for sure.
