A Saturday in Strandhill

It was Nollaig na mBan yesterday, a day where women used to get the day off and eat cake – sounds like my kind of day! You can read the roots and traditions of the day here. I didn’t get to eat cake or take a day off yesterday, but I made up for it today and had a belated Nollaig na mBan.

My friend gave me a voucher for Voya Seaweed baths for my birthday last year, and I hadn’t got around to using it, so I decided that today was the day. It was gorgeous, Voya has changed a lot since I was there last, it’s bigger and there seem to be more rooms, there’s also a large changing room, there’s also a twin room that overlooks the Ocean, I was itching to have a look, but I was too shy to ask.

Deirdre showed me to my bath, and explained how the process works, which was great because I’d forgotten. You go in the steam room first to open your pores and then you get into your bath and listen to the sounds of the waves crashing. It was totally wonderful, and I loved every minute of it. I’ve decided I need to have more water experiences this year. My skin feels lovely and soft and it was just so relaxing.

Before my seaweed bath I had breakfast in Shells, they had pancakes on as their special, and they were gorgeous, I also had a hot chocolate, and it was the perfect way to warm up after a blustery beach walk.

It was such a lovely start to the day and I’d highly recommend a visit to both Voya and Shells.
