Firstly I’m delighted that Sligo Central Library is now open on a full-time basis. It was a real shame when it was only open every other week and I was worried that we might lose such a valuable asset to Sligo town. Not only do they have a great selection of books for all ages and computers and the Internet available free of charge to library card holders, they also have several events taking place this summer including the following.
The library has a reading programme for the children called the “Summer Stars” running at the moment until the 26th August. Children read 8 books during this period and for every two books they read the get a bookmark, pencil, swim hat, wristband stickers and a fridge magnet. There will be a presentation of a certificate and medal to conclude the programme.
4th July National Playday 3-4pm “Fun and Active” Storytelling with songs and rhymes for skipping and jumping.
13th July. Introduction for Coding Workshop 10.30am – 12.30pm. If you are interested call into the library and leave your details with the staff.
The following are part of the Tread Softly Festival:
Wednesday 19th July 6 – 8pm Click Clack creative writing session – writers, artists, poets and scribblers of all persuasions can share ideas and get feedback on their work. A selection of prompts will be laid out and everyone will be asked to write something inspired by them for about fifty minutes. Afterwards, we each read out our work and provide positive feedback.
