Never too old to learn

Sligo VECI started a college course yesterday! I’ve always been interested in learning more especially as I failed miserably at school. To be honest I hated the place, too many bitchy girls…and teachers…and having to learn things I really wasn’t interested in. Since I’ve been volunteering my computer skills have let me down a bit with word and excel so this computer course came up and I thought I’d give it a go. I really wanted to do the web design course but the hours didn’t fit in around the kids so I couldn’t do it.

I have to admit I was nervous walking into the class but there are a few people there that I know, so that put me at ease straight away. The teacher seems very laid back as well she said there is no pressure…pressure is for car tyres. I’ll let you know how I get on 🙂

Good on ye, Val. Well done. I should take a leaf out of your book and sign up for a class or two or three, as well. Although I do have computer graphic design background, it’s been years since I went near anything like Photoshop or Illustrator, and with the software being upraded so frequently, it’s always a good idea to keep up with the latest techie stuff.

I like your teacher’s way of thinking – pressure is for tyres – cool. Just enjoy yourself and remember that this is not like those bad ould school days we’ve all had to one degree or another when we were kids. Just relax and enjoy yourself. Well done, once again.

Thanks June. So far I’m enjoying it but it’s very early days yet. I haven’t a clue about Photoshop so that would be a good course.

The teacher seems nice. I told the kids I’d become a student so I could join in RAG week…they weren’t impressed!

I had a good giggle when I read what you told your kids regarding rag week.

Photoshop is an amazing application. The things it can do now (or the things you can do with it now, I mean) compared to when I first started using it years ago must be absolutely mind-blowing. Just hang in there – it’s early days yet, as you’ve said, so you’re still just settling in and getting used to it. Definitely, if you want a challenge and want to have amazing fun and do amazing things with computer graphics, then Photoshop is taking it to that next level. Enjoy!

Well done ! I’m heading back to college myself in September so I know the nervous feeling you spoke about. Best of luck in your course and I hope it brings you everything you want and more 🙂
