Yesterday we went to see The Hunger Games π We’ve all read the books and couldn’t wait to see the film. It really was excellent, so great to see the book bought to life on the big screen. It wasn’t as gruesome in the film as I thought it would be but I guess that’s because it has a 12A rating.
I thought Haymitch was great, although I did think he would have been older (and drunker). I thought Cinna would be more flamboyant but I suppose it’s just the way I interpreted the book. Also a lot was cut out of the book but that had to be done otherwise the film would have been way too long. It was around 2 hours 20 minutes as it was.
There were a couple of humourous moments as well and of course the Katniss/Peeta love story.
We went to see the film at Carrick Cineplex in Carrick-on-Shannon. It’s the first time we’ve been to that cinema but it’s a great little place. They have a wine bar as well and WiFi so it’d be handy if you were leaving kids off to watch a film, you could relax and have a coffee. π
The seats are really comfortable, it reminded me of the cinemas I used to go to when I was a kid.
I was just looking on their website and they even hire out the cinema for private screenings, so if you wanted to watch a DVD on the big screen it would be brilliant. I would love to watch a couple of concerts on a big screen.
In the foyer there were framed tributes to various films. I’ll certainly go back to Carrick Cineplex again….probably to see The Hunger Games again. May the odds be ever in your favour.
I got to see it the other day, and did enjoy it, but there were 2 things that I didn’t like, Effie was just annoying I got bored every time she was on screen, but my big bugbear was the over-use of the hand held camera… Fine in District and in the game, but though ti would have been more powerful if it had not been in the Capital scenes.
jennifer Lawrence was very good, but other tributes just didn’t get enough time to have empathy for their fates.
Yes I do agree about the handheld camera, at the beginning of the film I was hoping they stopped using it because I hate camera work like that.
In the book you hear more about some of the tributes like Foxface, Glimmer and Rue but there are a lot that remain as just numbers.
My lovely 19 year old is bringing me to the cinema to see it on Sunday, so glad to hear that yu enjoyed it π
Hope you enjoy it π If you haven’t read the books I would really recommend then.
Ahh well now I HAVE to see this!
You do, it’s brilliant π
