Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday, and happy November!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written a Sunday Thoughts blog post. I haven’t really had that much to say, apart from things I’d already covered on the blog, like our trip to Edinburgh. This week is different though. I have quite a lot to say, I just have to try to articulate it.

I had a couple of wobbles this week. One was quite hilarious, and you’ll have read about it if you follow my Facebook page! The other was hilarious to everyone else, but not to me. I’m being a bit cryptic now, but I’ll tell you more.

I was part of a group that I really enjoyed being in. We met quite regularly and had quite a lot in common. I felt comfortable with them and was happy to be there. Last month, when we met, I got called a name by someone. They were ‘joking’, and everyone laughed. I didn’t really know what to think. I left with it going around in my head, and it made me feel quite low.

The group met again this week, and the same thing was said to me. Again, everyone laughed, but I could feel myself shrinking. I stayed out of the main group and left early.

If you read the blog regularly, you’ll know that I struggle with self-confidence. You’ll also know that I’ve had my own struggles with mental health. This encounter really affected me, much more than it probably should have. Things play on my mind, and I find myself wondering what I’ve done to people that gives them the power to make me feel so small and insignificant.

As much as I liked being part of the group, I’ve left it now. I’m not going to put myself through something like that again. Life is too short, and I’m getting too old to deal with name-calling. I felt like I was back in the playground. The laughter seemed amplified, and I really didn’t like feeling the way I did.

Anyway, that chapter is over. A special thank you to the two members of the group who checked in with me afterwards. It really is appreciated.

The following day I had to go into town. I was still feeling quite rubbish, so I decided to get my eyebrows done. Random, I know, but I thought maybe it might make me feel a bit better.

My usual lovely person wasn’t there, and somehow I got ‘persuaded’ to get my ‘moustache’ threaded. So much for making me feel better. Now I have a ‘tash too!

Anyway, eyebrows are one thing, but the upper lip is something else! I probably don’t have much of a pain threshold, but I’d rather give birth! I was half tempted to leave with only one side done. I struggled through it and staggered off into town with a very red lip and half of my eyebrow hair still on my face (neither of which I realised until I saw myself in a mirror later!). Talk about mortification!

I have to tell you, I’m not a brandy drinker, but if I hadn’t been driving, I’d have been straight into the nearest pub for one. I was that shook.

I had to go to the Sligo Cancer Support Centre to give them the money raised from my art exhibition. There are still paintings for sale, by the way (click here).

Somehow, instead of ending up in the centre, I saw a purple door, pressed a buzzer to get in, and found myself in the dentist! I only realised when I heard the sound of the drill! I had to do the walk of shame back out again. What am I like?

Thankfully, nothing else dramatic happened this week. Apart from the electric bill, but sure I knew that was on the horizon.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday, and may November be a kind month to you all. I think I should join in with Movember, because no matter how bad that ‘tash gets, it’s staying on my face!
