Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday! I hope you’re all keeping well. I’m just back from a long walk – one of the joys of waking early when the sun is shining. I love getting out and about; it really sets me up for the day.

I’ve done some lovely walks this week: Slish Wood, Lissadell, Raghley, and Coolaney. There’s nowhere lovelier than Sligo in the sunshine. It has been bitterly cold though, with a biting wind that never really lets up, even in the sun. I even had to clear frost off the car this week, which feels very wrong for May. I’ll write more about some of the walks in another blog, because I took loads of photos.

On my walks I’ve seen hares and lambs, and this morning there was a pheasant legging it across a field like Roadrunner – I was half expecting it to shout “meep meep!” A little iridescent beetle crossed my path too, and I heard the cuckoo. With so much going on in the world, it’s lovely to have these peaceful moments. Not everyone is lucky enough to experience them.

I’ve also been doing a bit in the garden. We don’t have a huge one, but I enjoy what we have. My strawberry tree died for some reason. I planted it seven years ago and it had been doing really well until this winter, so I’ve no idea what happened. I bought another one this week, although it’s tiny, so it’ll take a while to grow. Strawberry trees are fascinating, and they are very different to strawberry plants. You can read more about them here: Future Forests. As I was digging to put in the new tree, I dug up a black crystal, it’s so pretty, I’d love to know more about it.

I’ve been listening to audiobooks too. I just finished Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. It’s not the sort of book I’d usually pick up, but I flew through it. I was a bit confused about two-thirds of the way in though, and I can’t say too much without spoiling it. Apparently it was meant to be funny, but that completely passed me by – I didn’t find it funny at all! I’ve started Such A Nice Girl by Andrea Mara now. Andrea started out with a blog and now writes brilliant books. I’m delighted to see her doing so well.

As for TV, I’m on the last season of The Middle. I’m really going to miss it – I’ve loved it. I’m not entirely sure about the final season though; it does feel a little padded out at times. Still, it’s such an easy watch and the characters are very likeable.

I don’t think I have any other news for you. Wishing you all a good week ahead, and thank you, as always, for reading.
