Reflecting on a Busy Week: Sunday Thoughts

Here we are again, another Sunday, and another Sunday thoughts blog post. It’s been another busy week, but good busy. With a bit of everything.

Jono and I took an impromptu visit to Enniskillen on Monday. It was a bank holiday here, but it wasn’t in Northern Ireland, so we popped to Border Parcel Motel – which is a brilliant service if you need something that you can’t get delivered here. We had a visit to Modeller’s Corner – one of Jono’s favourite shops, we also went to Home Bargains and The Range. If I’m honest The Range looked like it had been ransacked, so many empty shelves! They have a small Iceland section there too, but again most of the freezers were empty. I don’t know if we went on a bad day, or if it’s always like that.

I had a work meeting on Tuesday with one of our projects, and this is one of my favourite projects, it’s called Inclusive Paths, and it looks at the difference that animals can make with people’s mental health. This one is right up my street, as you know I’ve had my own mental health issues, and I always feel calmer when I am around animals. So, I got to spend some time at Knockvicar Alpacas with the project team. I was mainly taking photos, but it was such a lovely way to spend the day. You can read the work blog post here. You can also read about my cow cuddling experience last weekend here.

I just wish that when I finished work that I could switch off. I’m always processing things, and when I’ve had a busy day, you think I’d sleep, not me, I’m awake thinking about how the day went, and what I have to do the next day. I’d like to have an on/off button sometimes.

On Friday I went to the Leitrim Women Through Time pop-up museum, and I spoke to Donna and Assumpta, who told me all about the Leitrim Women Through Time project, and you can listen here. I will write a dedicated blog post in the coming days.

I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror yesterday, oh my goodness, my crows feet are more like dinosaur feet! I didn’t really think much about wrinkles, but someone said something to me about my wrinkles a couple of months ago, and now I’m a bit paranoid. Sometimes people should keep their thoughts to themselves.

Onto nicer things. The blog turned 17 years old this week. The time has flown by, and I can’t believe that it’s still going after all these years. I wrote more about it here. A couple of lovely things happened on the back of that. Siobhan from The Imagination left me a tip, so I treated myself to breakfast in Manorhamilton, and the lady in Collooney Chinese Takeaway remembered that I like 7Up and gave me a can with my order. Both such lovely gestures were really appreciated.

I’m delighted to have been asked to speak on the DOT.Rural webinar. I’m also quite nervous, but promoting Sligo is my specialist subject. I’ll be talking about ‘Building Rural Tourism Visibility Through Authentic Social Media Storytelling’ . I hope some of you will join the webinar on Tuesday 10th at 12 noon Irish time. It’s just a half-an-hour, and I’d love to see you there. You can register here.

I think that’s about all my news for now. I know as soon as I hit publish that something else will pop into my head. I should really start writing this post as things happen. Anyway, I hope that you are all keeping well, and I wish you a good week ahead.
