Since moving on from Sligo Hub I missed having a place where I could share things of interest relating to Sligo, this included communities, events, photos, food, businesses etc. I do have my blog Facebook page, but I wanted a Sligo focused page or group, so the Love Sligo group was born in late 2021.
There’s been an issue over the name, or to be more specific the hashtag, I’m not going into the ins and outs of it, but I wasn’t prepared to be fighting a battle, and a hashtag is only as good as the people and the amount of people who use it. It seems like some don’t see it this way.
I’m now using #valssligo and we (me, Lyn and Blathnaid – the admins on the group) ran a poll and Lyn’s suggestion of The Heart of Sligo won. That’s what the group is – The Heart of Sligo. It’s a positive place and one where people can ask for help or suggestions, share their posts and photos, and hopefully become part of a welcoming, online community. Pages are welcome to join too.
I’ll also be using the #heartofsligo as a hashtag on social media too, and if you have an interest in Leitrim, Roscommon and Mayo, as well as Sligo – you can join my brand new Facebook group – Val’s Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Mayo. I look forward to seeing you on the groups.
