Toasties and Tie Dyes at Strandhill People’s Market

I love Strandhill People’s Market, it’s not just a market – it’s an experience. It’s come such a long way since its inception in 2013 when it was just a few stalls at the very windswept promenade. It now has a permanent home in Hangar 1 at Sligo Airport, it’s a happy place with a great atmosphere.

Take a stroll under the colourful umbrellas, feast your eyes on the gorgeous food and stunning arts and crafts, pick up a piece of jewellery or some funky clothing, and if you are lucky you might hear some live music too.

I went along yesterday and I finally got to try a TÓSTA toasted sandwich, there’s usually a really long queue for these and I can see why. They aren’t just your regular toasted sandwich, these are full of flavour and crispy on the outside with melted cheese oozing on the inside – are you hungry now? I am! Don’t just take my word for it, try them out yourself. You can find them at the market on Sunday and also at Bree’s Bar in Strandhill on selected days. Find them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TOSTAFOODVAN

I also bought a Hazelnut Chocolate Mocha from Driftwood Coffee Cart. The drinks here are unreal and Jessie’s smiling face adds to the experience.

I had the chats with some of my favourite artists, including Margaret Rattigan, Tony Osborne, Miss Leela Sassafras (I want her hair) and Eddie Lee. I’m in awe of all of them and it was lovely to talk to them.

One of the questions I get asked most is where I bought my tie dye hoodie from, it’s from Tie Dyes by Louise and I absolutely love it. You’ll find Louise and her colourful creations at the market and she really is so talented at what she does. She also does socks, baby grows and more. The best thing is that each one is unique and they will brighten up your life.

There are so many other wonderful stalls but I don’t want this blog post to turn into a book so I’m just featuring the ones I visited on this occasion. Have you been to the market? What are your favourite stalls?
