Reflections of the last decade

The last day of 2019 and as we approach a new decade it’s time for me to look back. On this day ten years ago both Andy and Jono were laid up with back issues. Jono was recovering from spinal fusion surgery, Andy was suffering from a very bad back and on his way to getting blood clots on his lungs (luckily we didn’t know at the time).

In the last ten years:

Lucy left school, met Laurence, left home and graduated from college.

We got a dog….and another dog. Both rescues and both great company.

There have been several changes of car, most notably the newest one a 2016 Renault Clio, which I love.

I volunteered, got a job, left a job and got a wonderful new job.

We moved home twice. Both very stressful, I have memories of a king size mattress on my car roof and a giant gnome hanging out of the back of my car. As well as bleach fumes.

I’ve had depression and anxiety, it wasn’t an easy time but I’m doing well now.

There have been lots of adventures; holidays to America, Italy, Spain, France and Germany. I’ve visited lots of different parts of Ireland. I’ve jumped off cliffs, gone surfing, horse riding, cycling, snorkeling and loads of others.

I’ve been on TV a few times including a makeover on the RTE Today Show.

I have a monthly radio show on Ballina Community Radio.

I said goodbye to my mother. She passed away in June 2019/

I went to college and did a few courses including drama (which I loved).

I discovered a love of art and painting.

I’ve taken thousands of photos and hope to continue to do so.

The blog has gone from strength to strength and Sligo Hub has been born.

I’ve met some wonderful people, especially in recent years.

There has also been lots of cake consumed ๐Ÿ™‚

Who knows what the next decade will bring but I’d like to wish each and every one of you a very Happy New Year.

  1. Gosh Val, that’s how long I’ve been ‘following you’. I remember your worries over Jono and Andy at that difficult time, around the time I connected with you through your photography. There’ve been highs n lows for us all and no doubt the next 10 will bring more. Let friendships endure and support each other through all lifes trials. Happy New Year to you all. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ–
