Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

I was driving along today and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road came on the radio. Isn’t it amazing how a song can take you right back to a moment in time and evoke a memory?

This song took me back to the age of 13. I was staying at my friend Julie’s house. We were listening to her brother’s vinyl albums, long before the days of compact discs.

I was relaxed and happy. The house was full of love and warmth. Julie’s mum was making the most amazing cinnamon pastries and the gorgeous scent filled the house. There was gentle teasing from her dad and brother. I remember wishing my house was like that, I’d never felt anything like that before.

I stayed with Julie for a few days and it was so lovely being part of a family. I’ll be eternally grateful for those special days. It showed me that there was a different way to live and gave me something to aim for.
