I love finding unusual places in Ireland and this one has been on my list to pop into many times. I finally called in today and had a lovely chat with Mary – The Book Lady. Mary is the proud owner of the smallest book shop in Ireland.
The Book Lady is situated in the town of Boyle, Co. Roscommon and stocks all kinds of second hand books. Mary is so lovely and very helpful, she was telling me that she has around 7000 books in her tiny shop – wow! Most importantly there’s room for a kettle!
There really is something for everyone there and she even has some free books on offer and a loyalty card scheme. So it’s worth a trip to Boyle for this shop alone, there’s also a great coffee shop just around the corner called Bazaar. I’m looking forward to going back to both shops again soon.

AMAZING! ALL THOSE BOOKS AND ROOM FOR THE KETTLE!
This sounds lovely- I love to visit independent book shops and coffee shops wherever I go. I will have to visit these 🙂
And she has made for herself one of the best jobs in the world. -Kate
She did indeed

Thank you

Mary, I’ve searched half the country for “Paddy Ferguson : Before the Plough” by Michael Clarke. I would be very grateful if you could check your shelves some time.
Hi Rory, I just wrote a post about Mary, you’d be better contacting her yourself.
