There’s a wonderful event taking place in County Mayo next month. If you want to explore the beautiful rolling landscape of The 61km long Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail, meet fellow walkers and find about more about this beautiful area this is well worth checking out.
The Croagh Patrick Heritage trail starts from the town of Balla in central Mayo and ends at the village of Murrisk at the base of Croagh Patrick. The trail is 61km in length and mainly at low level. The trail itself does not include the ascent to the summit of Croagh Patrick. From the beginning at Balla, the trail incorporates the beautiful cultural landscape that County Mayo has to offer. Through its rich archaeological and environmental heritage, one can also walk across deciduous woodland, rolling fields, raised bogs and ancient pathways. Bronze Age standing stones, Medieval Abbeys and Round Towers are other archaeological features that one will discover along the trail.
