Yes I know it’s still November but there are a few things coming up to get you in the festive mood and I thought I’d give them a mention.
In no particular order:
Sligo on Ice. Something new for Sligo town and a n-ice idea (see what I did there? ;)) An indoor ice rink with real ice and great fun for all. This is open from December 4th until January 29th and you can book online here.
If you want to work off the mince pies before you’ve even eaten them check out the Sligo Santa Dash. This is a 5k run, jog or walk on December 10th, hosted by Sligo Athletics Club.
On Sunday the 11th of December, the Innisfree Wheelers host their Santa Cycle starting from the Knocknarea Arena at the IT Sligo at 11am. Even if you don’t fancy taking to your bike it’s worth going along to see all the cycling Santas.
How about a dinner with a difference? If, like me, you’ve never been to an Irish wedding (sob!) head along to Cawley’s Hotel on December 2nd or 3rd for ‘The Wedding Reception’. Imagine Fawlty Towers but with a wedding and you’ll get the idea.
There’s a Christmas Craft and Tree Festival in Drumcliffe Parish Church. The event will take place between Thursday 8th to Sunday the 11th of December 2016.
Santatown is on at the Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown on weekends during December. You can find out more information here.
The Model Sligo have a Family Sunday on December 18th. Create your very own unique 6- card pack and stocking for the Holiday season. Places are limited so pre-booking is essential.
County Sligo Golf Club Choir Male Voice Choir and the Sligo Academy of Music present a special evening of Christmas Music in Summerhill College on Wednesday 14th December at 7.30pm
Anything Goes at the Hawk’s Well Theatre. If you haven’t been to one of these musical extravaganzas you don’t know what you are missing. On December 18th there are two Christmas concerts with Anything Goes – one matinée and one evening concert. This usually sells out really quickly so be sure to book.
The Christmas Markets:
Strandhill People’s Market have their usual Sunday market running but also have extra markets on Friday evenings and during the day on Saturdays for the month of December. You can find out more information here.
Rathcormac Market are open as usual on Saturdays from 10am – 3pm have a special Christmas Market on Thursday, 22nd December, from 3pm to 9pm, ( with Carol Singers, mulled wine, and a visit from Santa!)
Beltra Country Market have a Christmas Fair on December 10th from 10am – 2pm – crafts for the kids, Christmas Carols, food from Sligo Global Kitchen and much more.
So there are a few ideas for you to hopefully help you get into the Christmas spirit. This post is just a guide and not a recommendation of things to do and is not sponsored or affiliated with any of the events mentioned or by any other company.
