Jono and I are both fans of trains so when we found out a steam train was running from Dublin to Wicklow we jumped at the chance to go on it.
What a fantastic day it was. We got to travel from Dublin Connolly to Greystones on the K2 Class 2-6-0 No 461. The sun shone and the 1922 steam train took us along the stunning coastline of the Dublin Riviera.
The carriages are Craven coaches and date back to the 1960’s, they have been restored and are more comfortable than a lot of the modern trains. It was like going back to my childhood because I remember the trains having buffet cars and curtains – I’m showing my age now!
I’ve never been to Wicklow before but it’s a beautiful place and it’s the perfect way to see it by train. The volunteers from The Railway Preservation of Ireland were so friendly and we loved every minute of the trip.
There are various steam train trips throughout the year so do check out their website for more details.
Love steam trains
Such a lovely way to travel
Took auto trips with friends from Dublin down to Wicklow and then on to Waterford. Once when on vacation & then when working in Ireland for a few months. That was one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland, for sure!
I will check out that part of Ireland one day 🙂
