A few weeks ago Lucy and I went along to a lovely holistic evening of reflexology at the Sligo Park Hotel in aid of the MS NorthWest Therapy Centre. We were both a bit apprehensive as I’ve only had a trial reflexology session – and to be honest it hurt quite a lot and Lucy hadn’t had reflexology before – she’ll do her own blog when she gets a chance.
To begin with there was a huge raffle with all kinds of wonderful prices donated by local businesses. We were then shown into the candle lit ballroom and for an hour we got to totally relax. Deirdre Murray was my reflexologist and she was fantastic, I have Achilles heel problems and they felt a lot better after the treatment. I also had a lot of pain in my left knee and as Deirdre was working on my right foot I could feel my knee getting warmer and since then it has felt so much better. I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep!
The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre was the “brain child” of Mr Padraic Kilcullen (RIP). Padraic himself had multiple sclerosis and was keenly aware of the need for a facility in Sligo to cater for people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
The centre was officially opened in 1993 by Mary Robinson and offers support facilities not just for people diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis but also for their relatives and carers. There is also an accessible and supported respite facility called Woodhaven and is located in Sligo.
There are several fund-raising events that take place throughout the year and you can find out more on their website or their Facebook page. There is also the Essential Seconds Charity Shop which is in the Wine Street Carpark and sells clothes, bric-a-brac etc. in aid of MS NorthWest. The next fund-raising event is a coffee morning on Thursday 17th December at 10.30am and all are welcome, so please tell your friends.
Thanks Deirdre for a lovely night.
