The 2014 Fleadh Cheoil launched in Sligo yesterday and the town was alive with music, song and dance. It’s great to see the place looking so good thanks to Sligo Tidy Towns and wonderful to be able to invite visitors in to show them all Sligo has to offer.
President Michael D. Higgins came to launch the Fleadh. I think he’s a really lovely man, very friendly and approachable.
Martin McGuinness was also there, along with the Mayor of Derry. I think it’s a shame we don’t have a Mayor of Sligo anymore.
There was a colourful, musical parade through the town and we heard the story of St. Colmcille.
Sean-nos dancers entertained the crowd.
I was so proud to live in Sligo. I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the Fleadh has to offer over the course of the week.
Well done to all involved for a great day. The rest of my photos are here.
Keep an eye on my Facebook page for more photos during the week.
