Sligo St. Patrick’s Day Parade, 2011

As you will all know yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day, or St. Paddy’s Day but never, ever Patty’s Day! Consider yourselves told 😉

I took my mum in to see the Sligo Parade. As usual I took too many photo’s, you can see them here. I was very pleased to see that there wasn’t the usual fleet of new cars in the parade this year, or dustcart’s and the like.  I especially liked the Gilroy Tiles float. They had a Eurovision themed float with Abba on one side and Jedward on the other.

I also like the Feehily florist float which was lovely and colourful but I would love to know why so many of the kids that took part in the parade looked so blooming miserable.

Even the local nuns came out to have a look and thankfully the rain stayed off.

Here is some video that I took from the parade:

  1. Nice photos (as usual!,) Val. I especially love the miserable flowers- priceless! Our parade in Graignamanagh was smaller than yours,- the recession really seemed to hit the amount of participants and/or the fact that there were so many other places in Kilkenny having parades that many of the usual participants may have paraded in their own village this year. But it was a good atmosphere all the same! (I’ve a wee post w/ photos & short video clips on my blog if you want to check it out) And we have monks rather than your nuns! 🙂
