I admit that I am very late to the party with this one! Jessie’s opened at the ATU, St. Angela’s Campus at the end of November, but I didn’t have the chance to visit until today. Jessie herself will be familiar to plenty of people. If you visited Strandhill People’s Market, you’ll know her from there; always busy, always smiling, and always turning out great coffee.

Sadly, since the market closed, it left Jessie and many other stallholders without a base, so it’s wonderful to see that she’s now in St. Angela’s, and it’s a really lovely spot. Large windows, comfy couches, and a warm welcome. It’s especially wonderful when the sun is shining in.

First things first: the coffee. They’re serving Carrow Coffee, roasted locally, and absolutely gorgeous. You can choose from standard coffees – americano, latte, etc, or you can go for something a little bit special, including cinnamon cappuccino, hazelnut choco mocha, iced vanilla matcha, and more. I had a salted caramel latte, and a cinnamon roll – and they were delicious.

Then there’s the bakery side of things. Everything arrives fresh each morning from Blackbird Bakery in Strandhill, which already tells you a lot. They are fabulous. It’s nice to see some gluten-free options too.
Importantly, this isn’t just a campus café. You don’t need to be a student to call in, and it works just as well as a stop-off if you’re out and about. It’s particularly handy if you’re heading to Hazelwood Forest or over to Parke’s Castle, they are both only a short spin away.
Good coffee, proper baked goods, and a friendly face behind the counter. Sometimes that’s all you need – and Jessie’s gets it right. When you go into St. Angela’s – drive down the hill – Jessie’s is at the back of Áras Michael.
