I’m delighted to be back blogging again. I took a step back in July, I realised not just how much time I spent blogging, but also the financial aspect of it. Not only the cost of the website (domain/storage etc.), but also the cost in terms of petrol to travel to places, and buying food, if I wanted to feature a food place on the blog.
I put a call out for a sponsor, and I was open to mentoring, in the hope that someone outside the blog would be able to offer support or suggestions of what I should do to make things work for me. I’m not going to lie; I was quite disappointed at the lack of response. I suppose I thought naively that after 16 years of spreading the word about Sligo and beyond that there might be some support out there. There were a couple of meetings, that again took up time and travel, but they didn’t come to anything, and I ended up feeling more disheartened than I had before.
A few people told me to join Substack which I did, but it’s not for me. I just see it as another noisy social media platform, and I have enough of those going on already. The blog was my home on the Internet, my safe space where I could write whatever I wanted to, and it doesn’t attract the negative comments that the social media channels do.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I did get some support, and I’ll tell you all about that in the coming weeks. For now, I must concentrate on work and Lucy’s upcoming wedding.
Thanks to those of you who took the time to contact me, it was very much appreciated.
SO glad you are back!
Thanks very much
