Culture Night is back on September 20th and takes place countrywide. This is a day (and night) where groups and organisations open their doors to all, with pop up shows, exhibitions, creative workshops, family fun, and best of all – completely free! There are events for all ages, and all interests. There are a lot of events happening in Sligo, and I thought I’d write a post about some highlights.
10am – 1pm. Sligo town. The Creative Path is a project that illuminates the creativity inherent in everyone. Both therapeutic and creative practices are mutually supportive with creativity often playing a crucial role in mental health and wellbeing. This workshop is on at the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo. 1.30 – 3.00pm and 7 – 9pm. Ballisodare. ArdVoltas Arts Space artists Edward Healy and RóisÃn McNamee will facilitate a workshop for the public at on the 20th. This collaboration aims to include anyone that would like to, to be part in the making of an artwork that will be free to visit anytime. The sculpture will take the form of a flowering tree made from recycled and natural materials with the title of ‘An Crann Voltais’ /the Voltage Tree. 4.00pm – 5.30pm. Sligo town. “Who Do You Think You Are?” Kids’ Own Culture Night Workshop with artist Ruth Le Gear. Dance the night away from 9pm – 1am with Dónal Dineen’s Backstory.
