My ear has been driving me a bit mad in the last few months, I didn’t know what was wrong with it, and I thought it might have been earwax or an infection, or my sinuses, or something. I bit the bullet and booked an appointment to get my ears checked out.
I emailed a few places and Marian from Audiology Services was the first (and in one case) only person to get back to me. I explained my issue – what felt like a blocked ear, sometimes water in my ear, occasional pain, and she booked me in for an appointment with Daniel and told me he would look in my ears with a camera first before he did anything.
Off I went, kind of apprehensive, but also a bit intrigued I’ve never seen inside my ears before, so that was kind of cool, and Daniel didn’t mind me taking pics. He was brilliant, and explained the whole proceedure, and also the structure of the ear, and that we actually hear with our brain – I didn’t know that!

The camera was clear, Daniel saw my ear drum and everything is perfect, no ear wax to remove – phew. He also did a hearing test and I passed with flying colours, in fact he said I have the hearing of a ten year old – possibly the only part of ten year old me that remains – apart from my sense of humour.
I’d highly recommend a visit to Audiology Services. They hold regular clinics in Sligo town, Banada (just outside Tubbercurry), and Bundoran. I’m still not sure of what’s going on with my ear, but at least anything sinister has been ruled out – I’m wondering if it’s wearing my headphones more since I’ve started editing podcasts.
