‘Live @ Cultural Quarter’ Showcasing & Supporting Professional Roscommon Based Performing Artists

King House Cultural Quarter will come alive over May and June with a series of fringe cultural events taking place in multiple venues at the heart of Boyle, Co. Roscommon. These six events cover Live Music, Film, Theatre, Opera and Literature.

This series is part of the Local Live Performance Scheme 2022, which aims to help underpin the recovery of the live performance sector at a local level by assisting local authorities to fund live performance events that engage the services of local artists, musicians, technicians, producers and other professional practitioners.

Boyle Craft Shop will host the premiere event ‘Not Just Words & Music’ on Friday, May 20th. A night of mellow tones, electric soundscapes, lyrical intrigue and divine singing accompanied by classically trained musicians in the intimate surrounds of a quirky craft and book shop.

The King House Courtyard will come alive to celebrate the long bright summer evenings on Sunday May 29th with ‘Picnic in The Courtyard’ an evening of Live Music and sumptuous food in this idyllic setting. Experience the world in one night! Cathal Roche and his five-piece jazz band will transport you to New York’s Harlem and the Far East, followed by Sean Regan and his four-piece band Tradalac who will blend the rich traditions of Irish music with that of Scotland, Brittany, Spain and America. Bring your picnic chairs and comforts so you can relax and take it all in.

‘Mr & Mrs Hake and The Magic Princess Fish’ will visit King House on Sunday June 5th to take children and their adults on a magical journey. This ‘mini opera’ for ‘mini people’ is a really unique experience. The performance is produced by Roscommon based Opera company ‘Little Pilgrim Players’.

Spend time with friends and enjoy theatre and antipasti in King House Tea Rooms on Sunday evening, June 5th. Julie Sharkey will perform her one woman show entitled ‘Three Fat Women of Antibes’. Lots of laughs and good food, definitely the perfect recipe for a good night out.

If you are looking for a totally different night at the cinema you won’t want to miss Greenbird & The Hunchback of Notre Dame in King House on Saturday, June 11th. The talented musicians of Greenbird have taken the 1923 Hunchback of Notre Dame and composed a new soundtrack which will be performed live in time with the film.

Fregoli Theatre will close the series on Saturday June 18th in the Grounds of King House with their promenade theatre experience ‘Angels’. Follow them on their sensory journey through Boyle and see what kind of things they experience.

These events are proudly presented by Discover Boyle and King House. Live @ Cultural Quarter is funded by Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism Culture Arts Gaeltacht Sports and Media under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme, which aims to support the employment and wellbeing in the arts and cultural sectors through the provision of live performances.
