Enniskillen is one of my favourite places to visit – and not just because there is a massive Asda there! They also have lots of things to do, some that I’ve done and some that I haven’t. I thought this post might be of interest if you are planning a visit.
Enniskillen Taste Experience. This is one of the best food tours I’ve ever been on – and I’ve been on a lot, in various different countries. Mark, the host, is warm and welcoming and he’ll bring you on an extensive tour of some of the best places to eat in the island town. I’ve written a far more detailed post here.
Enniskillen Castle, this beautiful building is situated on the banks of the River Erne. The castle was built almost 600 years ago. The site now houses two museums; Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum.
You can even take a virtual tour: https://www.enniskillencastle.co.uk/visiting-us/about-us
Enniskillen’s East and Cole’s Monument Walking Tour. I’ve spotted this on the Enniskillen Castle Facebook page and I’d love to do this, you get to walk up Cole’s Monument (108 steps), and I can imagine the views from here are fantastic. The tour is just £20 for up to 6 members of your family. I’m not sure if this is just for the month of August 2020 but you can find out more here.
Headhunters Railway Museum. This place is just something else, it’s a railway museum and a barber shop. There is so much to see here and it’s truly unique. We’ve been here many times and love visiting.
Florence Court. A stunning 18th century home set in beautiful gardens and parklands. Enjoy the walking trails and the pleasure grounds, as the house isn’t open at the moment.
Marble Arch Caves. This place is just amazing and so worth a visit. You’ll take a guided tour underground and see the river, waterfalls and more. The geopark grounds are also stunning, this place is a great day out for all the family.
Cuilcagh Boardwalk – also known as The Stairway to Heaven. I haven’t actually done this one but it’s been on my list for a long time, the views look amazing from there. It is very busy at the moment so I will wait until things calm down.
The Erne Water Taxi. Another thing I’ve wanted to do for a long time. You can choose your trip, whether you want a tour of Enniskillen or to go to Devenish Island (another place on my list).
Castle Coole. An 18th century mansion set in landscaped grounds. Although the house isn’t open at the moment, there are limited tickets available for the grounds.
So there are just some ideas for you to do in Enniskillen. Have you got anything to add?
