Reconnect

I have to tell you about the Reconnect – Art Exhibition which is on at Johnston Court Shopping Centre, Sligo until March 28th. This is a really beautiful exhibition involving a group of Sligo artists. I love the diversity of the art work and the way it’s been curated. There is something for everyone and for all budgets which is lovely to see and having it in the shopping centre is perfect. I have to give a special mention to Clare Lynch, Ruth Ripon, Rob Forrester and Anna Leask, I especially love their work.

Anna Leask has produced 123 individual, beautifully created cyanotypes featuring curlews. The curlew numbers are declining in Ireland and the UK so Anna’s work is about the plight of the curlew. I spoke to Anna and she told me she grew up on the Shetland Isles and that the curlew provided the soundtrack to her childhood. When she moved here to Sligo she would hear the curlew when she was out walking and the sound reminded her of home.

Anna is donating 25% of the sales of her work to Little Wings Bird Sanctuary which is based here in Sligo. The aim of Little Wings is to rehabilitate and release, when possible, all the wild birds. This is such a lovely gesture and a great way to raise awareness of the curlew. You can find out more about Anna and her work here.

If you are in Sligo do try to go and see the exhibition, it’s really something special. Well done to everyone involved.
