In light of the Versatis patches being withdrawn by the HSE I was looking into some of the spending by the HSE. I’m not targeting anyone as I know people are entitled to health care for various reasons but I am wondering if perhaps cuts could be made elsewhere.
HSE wages in 2016 included 2 staff members received over €560,000, nine received pay between €300,000 and €370,000, 24 staff members received pay between €250,000 and €300,000; 207 in receipt of salaries between €200,000 and €250,000; 1,070 between €150,000 and €200,000 and 931 between €100,000 and €150,000. Data from other countries and the WHO says that in developed countries, between 5-15% of the total health budget is spent on treating tobacco related disease – in Ireland, this amounts to between €1 and €2 billion every year. Based on pricing data provided by the HSE, the cost for the 28 people in the process of transitioning to complete treatment, would be €845,600, excluding travel expenses and postoperative care. 3 million spent on cosmetic surgery procedures in 2015. It brings the total spend on cosmetic surgery performed in public hospitals to €22,838,819 for 5,922 patients since 2009.
