This week I went along to Feehily’s Florist in Carraroe, Sligo to try my hand at flower arranging. I’ve never done anything like this before and I wasn’t sure if it would be something I’d be any good at or if I would enjoy it.
Feehily’s Florist is a gorgeous shop, it’s hard not to get into the Christmas spirit just looking around. There’s even a postbox for the children to send their letters to Santa and snow falling from the ceiling 🙂
Micheál Feehily is the owner of Feehily’s Florist, they have been in business for over 30 years and really know their stuff. They travel all over Ireland bringing weddings, houses and retail premises to life with their beautiful displays.
I’m not the most creative person in the world and I have the worst attention span going so I was dubious about how I would get on with the flower arranging.
Firstly Micheál gave us a demonstration of how to make a Christmas table decoration, he was chatting away as he worked. He’s both friendly and entertaining and I enjoyed watching him work – and then it was our turn.
I made my way to my work station where everything was laid out for me and off I went. At one point my table looked like an explosion in a forest. There were pine cones and needles everywhere, I half expected a squirrel to jump out!
The Christmas music was playing and for a couple of hours I was immersed in my pine forest heaven. I have to say I really enjoyed making my table decoration, it was great fun and so relaxing. I’m actually quite impressed by how it turned out, Micheál was on hand to give me a little bit of help when I needed it.
My only problem is that my decoration is almost the same size as my table! First World Problems! I’ll have to get a bigger table 😉
You can find Feehily’s here. They run various workshops throughout the year, as well as Flower Demonstrations involving top International Designers showcasing their floral designs. Sincere thanks to Feehily’s for inviting me along to such a lovely evening.
