Parkes Castle is located on the shores of beautiful Lough Gill. It’s a short drive from Sligo town or from Dromahair, Co. Leitrim and is well worth a visit. It’s run by the OPW (Office of Public Works) and is open from April – October.
The castle dates back to the 17th century and was once the home of Robert Parke and his family. There is a short video to tell you about the history of the place. There is also a self-guided tour but I’d recommend going on the tour with one of the guides, so you can find out a lot more about the place.
