Parkes Castle

One of the places we took Andy’s dad to was Parkes Castle in County Leitrim. I haven’t been for years but it’s a lovely place and quite a reasonable price to get in.

There are guided tours at no extra cost and they are really interesting and informative. We heard all about the families that lived in the castle. How one of them was left-handed and the staircase was built for left-handed people. There is also a cottage display in the castle at the moment. With some old Irish cottage memorabilia that I would have remembered from my Nan’s house.

The castle is on the shores of Lough Gill. It’s a really beautiful place and very scenic. The rest of my photos are on flickr.

  1. Hi there! I am delighted to have stumbled across your blog. I live in Scotland, however, my nana was from Collooney and i spent all of my childhood summers there, not to mention, St Patricks Days, Birthdays, Weddings and all sorts since then. My husband and children feel exactly the same and we are over every year. It was lovely to be reading about places i know, when I cant be there myself. Have a lovely day, best wishes to you and you and your family – Jx
