On Friday night Ronan Collins bought his ‘Reelin’ in the years’ Showband show to the Sligo Park Hotel. The special guests for the night were Crystal Swing so along we went because Jono is a big fan of them.
My mum came with us too for the night out. The place was packed and the show lasted for almost three hours. People that know me will know it’s not my kind of music but I’m warming to Crystal Swing. We had to wait for the end of the night for them to appear though.
Before that we got to see Ronan Collins (who really has a lovely voice), Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg (who were in the Eurovision song contest in the 1970’s), Des Lee who was in the Miami showband, DJ Curtin (who I thought was a DJ but he wasn’t!) and The Conquerors showband.
There was so many gyrating hips going on I was worried for the health of some of them! Crystal Swing gave us a special mention when they were on stage and got everyone to give us a round of applause. Then during one of their songs Derek landed in my lap! My mother pinched his bum! What is she like!!
Anyway it was a good laugh and if you are into the Showband era you will really enjoy it.

Glad Jono got to meet Crystal Swing. Have you blogged about the Wiki Wander yet? (was nearly going to call it the Google Gander)? I saw a post on FB about you winning something. Good on you. I was tempted to go, but weather conditions prevented it unfortunately.
This is the third time Jono has met Crystal Swing! He’s a proper groupie. I haven’t blogged about the ‘Google Gander!’ yet, that will be tomorrow 🙂 It was fairly good weatherwise here. We enjoyed the day.
Honestly, what is it with Mum’s and pinching bums? my mum would have done exactly the same, however she would have blamed me for it.
Seems you’re getting to be very well known with the band, though I’ll bet the chap in question will be checking to see who’s at your table before taking a flying leap at you next time. ;D
I reckon Derek thought it was me that pinched his bum!!! Mum’s eh!
Oh no Val, you’ve made me feel old now..because I remember when the Swarbriggs were in the Eurovision 😦
I must have remembered it too because I was singing along 😉
