I took Jono to Dublin yesterday for a day out. There were a couple of things he wanted to do so we got up early and got the 5.53am train….I know it was a mad hour!
Luckily we got to see a lovely sunrise. The weather has been so bad I was beginning to think the sun was an urban myth.
We arrived in Dublin just before 9am and had a wander around the park in St. Stephens Green while we were waiting for our Viking Splash Tour. The park is such a lovely place, you could almost forget you were in Dublin.
Well what can I say about the Viking Splash Tour, it was brilliant!!! The photo above is a DUKW (which was used in World War 2. It drives around Dublin and then goes into the Grand Canal.
Everyone wears Viking hats and roars at the ‘Celts’ (people that aren’t on the tour). The driver is also a tour guide and tells you all about Dublin. He was so funny. I spent most of the time laughing. I think this is the best thing we’ve ever been to in Dublin.
After the Splash tour and lunch we went to Dublinia which is all about Vikings and heritage. It was good but I would have liked to have seen people dressed as vikings like a ‘real life’ village instead of just statues. We enjoyed looking at the archaeology exhibition and also going to the top of St. Michaels Tower and seeing the view over Dublin (didn’t enjoy the 96 steps we had to walk up to get there though!)
Then we visited Christchurch Cathedral which dates back to 1030. It really is a stunning place. So much attention to detail. We also went down to the crypts.
After all that we walked through Temple Bar and made our way back to the station where the train was 40 minutes late! Oh well better late then never I suppose.

Sounds like a great day, you must have enjoyed it. I would!
You do more tourist things in Dublin than I’ve ever done!!! And I live there. Glad you had a good day xx
