You might have read that we moved house in June this new house has a greenhouse so I’ve been pottering about in it. I really have no clue about growing anything but I didn’t let that stop me. I planted tomato plants and was expecting them to grow tomatoes immediately…they didn’t so I shouted at them…lo and behold it worked and soon afterwards tiny tomatoes appeared. They’ve now got bigger but they won’t go red. I’ve shouted at them, sang to them, told them rude jokes but have had no response.
One of them blushed slightly….it must have been the jokes, it’s the way I tell ’em. I’ve now lopped all the stray stems off but still no luck. My friend Medbh suggests I need farting bananas so I’m going into town today on a mission to find a banana with a gas problem. If that fails Greenside Up have done a great blog post about getting tomatoes to ripen. So I think I’ll try all the ideas and let you know how I got on. I can tell you are very excited to find out the results…hang on in there 😉
Haha, told them rude jokes… :)) sadly it’s the warmth and sunshine that will make them ripen and sounds like you’ve done the right thing in removing the side shoots and lower leaves. We did the same in the community garden today and the plants are looking quite naked now! And I have to say, I’ve never heard a banana fart lol
Me neither Dee and I keep listening 😉
