I never make any new year’s resolutions, I’d never keep them anyway, but I do have a few things planned for 2026, so here’s a round-up of those, and I’m also adding some things that I’d like to do – they might not happen, but it’s nice to plan.
2026 is looking good in the way of concerts. I’m seeing The Feeling in Dublin in March and Marillion in Liverpool in September. I’ve been a fan of both bands for years, and to my shame I’ve never seen Marillion live, but thanks to the kids I’m off to the gig.
I was half thinking about seeing a Meatloaf tribute in Castlebar, but I’ve just realised that The Immersive Experience of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version is still on in London, and I think that will take priority.
Me and Jono are going to Germany in June for a couple of days, we are really looking forward to it. It’s very handy having Knock airport just down the road, and great that they fly to Germany.
I’d like to do more exploring, there were so many flat days in 2025 that I didn’t really get to many places. I’d also like to paint more, but we’ll see.
Onto the ideas. The first two are way out of my remit, but I’d love to see them happen.
I still think there should be some kind of Cheese Festival or experience in Sligo. It’s said that Queen Maeve got killed by a lump of cheese, so it could be some kind of commemoration. You can read the cheese story here: https://magnumlady.com/2017/08/23/queen-maeve-a-cheesy-story/
I’d love to see a mini bus that takes people around the Yeats County Drive. In my head I have visions of people reciting poetry along the way, especially The Fiddler of Dooney at Dooney Rock etc.
I’d like to start a new podcast series dedicated to women; hearing stories of women from all walks of life. I don’t know if I’ve got the courage to start this, but it’s something that I’d like to do.
I have an art project idea in my head. The working title is ‘To Sligo With Love’. I would encourage people from all over the world, and of course Sligo, to explain what Sligo means to them, using art, photos, videos, letters, postcards, etc. I think it would make a lovely exhibition, or website feature, or possibly even a book. I’d also encourage the new Sligo communities to be part of the project. This is also something that could be done for the rest of the country; ‘To Leitrim With Love’, etc. and even ‘To Ireland With Love’. I wouldn’t even know how to start this, or how to go about it, but maybe by putting the thought out there someone might have more of an idea.
I’d love to offer my photography services to animal rescues. Due to time constraints and petrol costs, they would probably have to be local animal rescues, but maybe they could use the photos for fundraising calendars or books, or if they have animals that need rehoming that might be an idea.
That’s probably about it for now. I thought there might be more, and I bet once I press publish I think of more ideas.
