Culture Night is back on Friday, September 19th and takes place countrywide. This is a day (and night) where groups and organisations open their doors to all, with pop up shows, exhibitions, creative workshops, family fun, and best of all – completely free! There are events for all ages, and all interests. There are a lot of events happening in Sligo, and I thought I’d write a post about some highlights. Some of these events are booking only (and some are already booked out – so I haven’t added them. Please check with the venue, or on the link before you arrive. For all the Sligo events – click here.
The Hawk’s Well Theatre. Pop Singalong with Sinéad Conway. Calling all Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo fans who love to sing! Unleash your inner pop-star in this fun-filled Singalong with Sligo’s singing sensation Sinéad Conway. 4pm (7-9 years)

5pm and 6pm Bus Éireann will host Comhaltas at Sligo Bus Station between 5pm and 6pm for a Trad Music event. No booking required.
5.00pm – 10.00pm. The Crib, Rockwood Parade Sligo. Amplify is a vibrant Culture Night event celebrating young musical talent. Open to all teenagers, it features an open mic hosted by professional musician, Kieran Quinn, who will accompany performers. 5.30pm – 6.30pm. “The Amazing Music Workshop” is a specially designed, 1-hour in-person experiential music workshop by Music Generation Sligo for Culture Night 2025. 5.30pm – 7.30pm. gRounded is an exhibition arising from the exploration of the old Mill site at the Gleniff Horseshoe Valley and its environment. Through observation, art and writing Aideen Connolly, Andy Parson, Winifred McNulty and the Benwiskin Creative group have produced work inspired by this liminal landscape which will be displayed at the atmospheric Mill Site on Culture night September 19th from 5.30 -7.30. This is a free event open to all.

6.00pm – 7.30pm Join conductor and music educator Ciara Murphy and Sligo Orpheus Choir for Sligo Sings – a joyful, interactive collective singing workshop! Celebrate Culture Night 2025 by raising your voice in harmony with others in the beautiful Sligo City Hall. No booking required.
6.00pm – 8.00pm. Sligo Soundscapes – An Evening of Music, Memory, and Place.
Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of County Sligo with Sligo Soundscapes, a unique sensory experience set against the stunning backdrop of Sligo Abbey, dating back to 1252 in Sligo. Booking required. Email sligoabbey@opw.ie to book

6.00pm – 8.00pm. Stop by the Pulled studio for a fun, hands-on creative session in printmaking. Discover unconventional materials to make unique prints by repurposing everyday items found in the home. 6.00pm – 11.00pm. The Nest, Quay Street, Sligo Workshops, live music and community connection, launching new parent support groups The Daddy-Do’s and The Mammy-Do’s. The evening ends with youth bands performing original music. Ages 12+. No booking required.
6.30pm – 8.00pm. Sligo Presbyterian Hall. An uplifting evening of celebration with international food by the Haven and joyful music by Sligo Gospel Choir, The Urquhart Family Band (trad and gospel), and Liudmyla Ropiak and friends (Ukrainian folk music).
6.30-8.30pm Scribes Book Launch at Serious Business shop on JFK Parade. In the tradition of games such as dungeons and dragons, Scribes focuses on Irish Myth and Folklore from the Northwest. You can pick up a free copy of Scribes at night. No booking required.
7pm to 9pm. Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown, Sligo. The Irish Annals chronicled births, battles, plagues, miracles, & everyday happenings for over a thousand years, before falling silent in the 17th century. On Culture Night 2025, you will be invited to add your own NEWS to our parchments for 2025.
7.00pm – 8.30pm. A Wee Tap (Play) by Rory Nevin. Performed by Maggie Kilcoyne. Ballymote Resource Centre. No booking required 18+
8.00pm – 10.00pm. The Coleman Centre presents a night of traditional music, song and dance to say thank you to our many patrons for their support over the years and to celebrate the culture we have inherited and working hard to preserve and promote. 8.00pm – 11.00pm.
The Púca Roams is a street performance in motion, featuring a folklore-inspired creature brought to life by Allta Creations.
With a mix of costume, stilt-walking, and puppetry, the Púca gently prowls Queen Maeve’s Square, offering encounters to late-night Culture Night revellers. No booking required.
8.30pm – 11.30pm. Sligo Traditional Singers at Harry’s Bar, Rosses Point. This will be an open unaccompanied traditional singing session in which all attendees are encouraged to participate or just listen, facilitated by an Mc/Fear on Tí. No booking required.
9-11pm. 2FM are coming to Sligo! Join The Model, Sligo, for LIVE performances from 2FM Rising artists. Doors open at 8.30pm. Tickets are free. Wristbands are available on a first-come, first-served basis at The Model, Sligo, on the night.
