Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday! This week in June is the busiest week of my year so far. It’s all about celebrations. It was Jono’s birthday during the week, so we had a takeaway for dinner. I got food from different places, so there was a bit of everything.

Dominos in Sligo do gluten-free pizza, so that was one of the choices. We also got food from Pizza Max in Sligo for the first time, which was quite disorganised, they didn’t open when they were meant to (well they did, but the chef wasn’t there!), the card machine wasn’t working, and there was a lot of going back to see if the food was ready. I got a dish from The Panda too, they have a spicy tofu bag – well worth trying, and they are very friendly there.

Instead of getting a personalised cake I just got one from a shop and put some Pokémon figures on it, and one of the cookies that I’d ordered for Jono. There’s a lady in Carrick on Shannon who makes the most amazing, personalised cookies, you just give her an idea, and she’ll do the rest. She’s so talented.

It’s Andy’s birthday tomorrow, and our wedding anniversary. I can’t believe he’ll be 60! And we’ll have been married for 35 years. I still remember all the people who thought we’d rushed into marriage. When you know you’ve met the right person you know.

I decided to get my hair and nails done to celebrate. I spent so many years not really taking care of myself, so it’s nice to be able to treat myself, and I was feeling quite delighted with myself until I saw this comment on Twitter:

Why do people have to be so nasty? It also happened on the same day that someone left a string of expletives on my video of The Holy Well on Facebook. I’m wondering if there’s a full moon out.

This week came the news that Strandhill People’s Market isn’t reopening, I’m sad about this. I didn’t get to it that much last year, and I was looking forward to visiting again this year, but that’s not going to happen now. It was such a wonderful market, so much choice of everything, and I bought some lovely things there. I just loved how colourful and bright it was, and it was undercover too! Which is a must in this inclement weather that we have in Ireland. I wrote about that here.

I haven’t been out taking photos this week and I’m starting to feel it. I feel like I’m missing something if I don’t get some kind of creativity in, and the painting mojo is still missing, but I have booked a place on the Yeats Watercolour Painting workshop next week, hopefully that might inspire me to pick up a paintbrush again.

Speaking of creativity. I’m delighted to have a written piece in Rewind – the Indie Authors Ireland anthology. I wrote about memories of my school holidays spent in Galway. Roller discos and Quinnsworth, and everything in between. All proceeds go to As I am – Ireland’s Autism Charity, and you can buy a copy here:

I think that’s all my news for now. Wishing you all a lovely Sunday, and thanks for reading.
