A Day Trip to Enniskillen

I took Lucy up to Enniskillen yesterday for a day out. We were going to look for an outfit for me for the wedding, and just to have a gander about the place. The Continental Market was on at Enniskillen Castle, so it was the perfect day for a trip up, and the weather was glorious.

I really like Enniskillen, it’s a very pretty town, and there are a lot of different shops. The value isn’t the same as it used to be, possibly since Brexit, but I’ve noticed that everything has gone up in price. I know everything has got more expensive here too, but when you change from euro to sterling it adds more on.

On the way into the town, we spotted a car boot sale, so we had a quick pit stop and a look around, we got a few bits and pieces, but again some of the things were a bit expensive.

Our next stop was the market, it was a feast for the senses, and a chance to try food from around the world. There were also some other stalls; crafts, clothing, etc. and there was a bar, but it was mainly food stalls. We shared a Halloumi Flat Bread from the Lebanese stall, it was packed with flavour and delicious, we also shared Dubai strawberries, although our eyes were bigger than our bellies and we couldn’t finish them, so we took them home. We didn’t notice any gluten-free stalls at the market, just so you are aware if you go up (the market is on again today – May 18th from 12 – 6pm). Also, some stalls only take cash, this is a bit of a pain if you don’t have sterling.

We sat alongside the river, and watched the boats go by, and the swans nesting. It was so beautiful, and a lovely way to spend some time.

Onwards to the town, and a visit to almost all the charity shops. We didn’t see anything we liked/or that was suitable for the wedding. Lucy tells me I’m fussy when it comes to outfits, and I suppose I am, I have an idea of what I want, and more of an idea of what I don’t want. I’m also very conscious of my body shape, and I’m not a big fan of it, so I want something that will hide the lumps and bumps but doesn’t look like a tent.

We went to two of my favourite shops in Enniskillen. Enniskinn, a stunning shop that you must visit. It’s like walking into a spa, it smells gorgeous in there. They make their own skin care products, and they also stock a wide range of gifts, including Fable bags, Fox Under the Moon cards, and more. I could spend hours there.

Fermanagh Cottage Industries is another beautiful shop. This shop is a family run business that has been in the town for over 60 years. They have so many gift ideas and a wide variety of crafts, including wool, ribbon, needle felt kits, and more.

We spotted the Enniskillen Taste Experience; that’s something I want to bring Lucy on. It’s such a wonderful thing to do, you find out so much about the town and you also get to experience some amazing food and drink from local producers and food establishments. This isn’t just a food tour, it’s something very special. Read more here.

One thing that was disappointing is the lack of free Wi-Fi in the town, I had hoped to post photos and videos of our trip when I was there, but my roaming isn’t working, and the Wi-Fi is Ā£4.99 an hour. There is free Wi-Fi in Asda and the Erneside, but not in the centre of the town from what I could see.

We looked in some of the fashion boutiques, we missed a few of them I realise now, but it was very hot to be traipsing around. I did like Style, the staff were very friendly there, the friendliest boutique I’ve been in so far. I did see a dress I like – apart from the flowery top part (yes, I’m fussy). I also had fun imagining myself in the pink number above.

I look at Lucy who always looks so stylish and put together and I wonder how she is my daughter. I always look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards! She looked fabulous yesterday in her sunglasses and leopard print, and there’s me with my ā€˜Adopt a Cat’ t-shirt!

Anyway, we went for lunch in Bigfoots but were both still full up from the market, so they kindly packaged up our food so we could bring it home.

Next stop was Asda, I bought very little, and finally Iceland (the shop not the country), I would usually have bought quite a bit there, but even though I had freezer bags I was worried that the food might not stay frozen.

So, that was our day out in Enniskillen. The search for the dress continues (said like the voice over of The Apprentice). Watch this space.
