ATU Launches Period Promise – Nail the Stigma

I’ve written about the Atlantic Technological University Period Promise Campaign before, I heard Yvonne Kennedy, the Healthy Campus coordinator at ATU Sligo, speak about it at the Sligo Women in Business Network event in September. You can read that blog post here.

On March 4th, 2025, ATU Sligo launched Period Promise, the first campus-wide Healthy Campus initiative dedicated to menstrual health, dignity, and equity.

ATU believes that everyone deserves to manage their period with dignity, free from stigma. This initiative is about more than access to free period products—it’s about changing the conversation and making period equality a reality.

I met some of the students working on the campaign at the Sligo Women in Business International Women’s Day Event (read more about that event here), and I want to take a moment to say a huge well done to them. The photo at the top of the blog is the students with Senator Nessa Cosgrove and Yvonne Kennedy.

The SWIBN event was a very busy event and the students were brilliant, not a bother to them, chatting to everyone. I really loved the #nailthestigma idea, encouraging attendees to paint their nails pink. It was inspired and was a great conversation starter. You can follow Nail the Stigma on Instagram.
