Thoughts on the Blog

I’m not going to share this post on any of my social media accounts, it’s more a way of me getting things out of my head. If you are here reading this, you might even have some ideas or suggestions.

My last blog post was a Sligo Food News one, I’d noticed a lot of things of interest and thought I’d add them to the blog. It took hours/days to compile it all. I posted it on my channels and tagged the businesses that I’d added. It got thousands of views, and three readers left me a tip online (I’m so grateful to them).

I’m going to admit that I’m deflated though. I know no one asked me to compile the blog post, but I do think it was of interest, and maybe even inspires people to visit some of the places I mentioned. A few of the businesses said thank you, but that was it, just a handful. A thank you from the others would have been lovely, and it doesn’t cost anything.

So, I’m now questioning the blog (not the first time I’ve done this in 16 years of blogging). Is it because I’ve always promoted Sligo that it’s just expected? Do people not see any value in it? I’m at a bit of a loss, and I don’t know where I’ll go from here.

The blog will always be here (as long as I can afford to pay for the domain and storage), but I’m wondering if I should just keep it as a diary and just write about the things that I’ve been to, and the things that interest me.

I’ll see what I think in the coming days and weeks. If you have read this blog post, thank you.

  1. Hi Val,
Just had chance to check in on here.
Ah, that is disappointing to hear of Sligo seemingly taking your business promotions for granted considering all the work you put in.
I totally agree that you should get some kind of recognition for your hard work.
Maybe your gut feeling is the one to go by here and use your blog for your own personal development.
I really feel for you and also potential health problems if you carry on as you are.
Thank you for sharing & take care.

  2. I wouldn’t try to influence you one way or the other but go with your gut feeling. This has annoyed you before so maybe run the blog as your original diary postings for a few months and see how you feel then. So many people/businesses take you for granted now and dont remember that you’re a one woman operation with a passion for Sligo. I really cant comprehend how Sligo Tourism cant see the value in your work promoting their beautiful county for them. x

  3. Been following the blog and your social media for years and it is a big inspiration on my own recent blog website, so thank you Val for the consistent content!

Fully understand your thoughts on the blog and I echo the other commenters.
