I am a big fan of The Leitrim Design House, no visit to Carrick on Shannon is complete without calling in to see their beautifully curated selection of Irish art, craft, and design. So, I was delighted to be invited along to feature the gallery on my blog.

The Leitrim Design House is located in The Dock, a stunning 19th Century former Courthouse building overlooking the River Shannon. It’s a one-stop-shop if you are looking for a gift for someone, or you just want to treat yourself.

The Leitrim Design House was established by the Local Enterprise Office, and it opened in 2000, it’s a treasure trove of beautiful Irish made products, from over 140 makers from all over Ireland. There is so much choice, including art, ceramics, jewellery, skincare, textiles and much more. I saw so many beautiful things, and you really will be spoilt for choice, the staff are friendly and helpful if you need a hand with anything. The building is bright and airy, it’s wheelchair accessible, and there’s even a coffee shop in the building, as well as an art gallery.

In fact, The Leitrim Design House is home to the ARTWALL, a unique exhibition area, showcasing Irish artists. When I visited, I saw ‘Meandering’ a collection of paintings by Heike Heim. The ARTWALL changes roughly every two months, so it’s well worth calling regularly to see what’s new.

There are so many things I love, and I don’t want to single anyone out, so I’ll share some photos here, and more on my Facebook page. I’d like to highlight the Leitrim Gift Box, this is the perfect gift for people from Leitrim, who may be missing home. You can purchase the Wild Rose Box here.

I met up with Emma Cunningham, the manager of The Leitrim Design House, and she told me more about the gallery, you can listen to our chat here:

If you can’t get to visit The Leitrim Design House in person, you can shop online on their website. I ordered a beautiful pair of earrings a couple of months ago, and they arrived the next day – which is quite rare in Ireland! The earrings were beautifully wrapped, and I was delighted with them.

There’s free delivery in Ireland, if you spend over €50, and if you see something that you like on social media just give them a call and they’ll look after you, and they take payment over the phone, which is very handy, as I know some of my readers don’t shop online. They also ship worldwide, so you can enjoy Irish designed pieces wherever you are in the world. You can visit their website here: https://leitrimdesignhouse.ie/

If you aren’t sure what to buy someone, you can purchase a gift voucher, and these can be used online or in-store. Deposits on items are also welcome, just chat to the staff and they’ll be happy to help.

I love the section on the website about the makers and designers who feature in the gallery, it’s wonderful to find out more about their work, and I’m always intrigued by the stories behind the craft, and what inspires the designers.
There’s a beautiful book called ‘Leitrim – A Creative Landscape’, this was a collaboration between The Leitrim Design House and photographer Brian Farrell, and it’s just stunning! Brian captures the spirit of the creatives in his beautiful photography, check out the video above.
Thanks so much to Emma and The Leitrim Design House for inviting me along. I really enjoyed my visit, and my purchases. I’ll be back again soon.
