I have the most incredible spa experience to tell you about. Just a short drive from Carrick on Shannon is the most amazing oasis of calm. Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway is in Leitrim Village and is the perfect location to switch off and unwind, and as well as being a unique holiday destination where people can stay in one of the lodges on the site, it’s home to The Wellbeing Sanctuary.

The Wellbeing Sanctuary is an outdoor spa nestled in the walled gardens of the Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway. If you’ve ever wanted a spa experience in the heart of a forest this is the place for you. You can choose from the Hot Tub Experience, the Seaweed Bath/Aroma Bath Salt Experience, or combine them both for The Wellbeing Experience. Each package includes the use of the indoor sauna, and the covered relaxation deck, which looks out onto the spa. There are also ice-cold showers if you are brave enough – I wasn’t!

A good friend of mine gave me a voucher last year and I finally got around to visiting. From start to finish the whole experience was a dream. James is the manager of the sanctuary, and he was so friendly and helpful, both over emails and when I met him, and he showed me around the spa. I booked the Aroma Bath Salt Therapy Experience, it’s something different to the seaweed baths that I would normally go for. All the products in the spa are made by Voya, including the aroma salt bath, I love the Voya products, they are so luxurious, and they smell amazing, and of course Voya are based in Sligo – even more reason to love them.

I started my spa experience with a visit to the sauna, followed by lounging in the relaxation area, it took me a while to realise that the birds I could hear along with the relaxing music were birds in the forest! The bath was just something else, it was wonderful to be able to relax in a hot bath and to breath in the fresh air of the forest. I watched the sunlight streaming through the trees, and the leaves swaying with the breeze. Birds flew from the trees, and I saw robins, blackbirds, and even a blue jay.

It was one of the most incredible experiences that I’ve ever had, and it’s wonderful that it’s so close to home, but in terms of the experience it was like a world away from real life. I will certainly be visiting again, and I would really recommend this to you if you were looking for a spa that’s a little bit different. Check out Drumhierny Wellbeing Sanctuary on their website.
This isn’t a sponsored post, the voucher was a gift from a friend.
Looks gorgeous, and cycle reachable (from South Roscommon, mind!). Reminds me of a similar health retreat/spa that used to run in Taughmaconnell, near Ballinasloe, it was called The Little House of Avalon, unfortunately closed in the great recession of 2012 and lying abandoned ever since. The solar panels are still up on the roof!
I’ve never heard of that one Alan, what a shame it closed down
